Shadow of the Erdtree DLC Review: END THE PAIN, PLEASE

Shadow of the Erdtree’s Story

Shadow of the Erdtree follows the Tarnished once more as they explore the Realm of Shadow. Taking a detour from becoming Elden Lord, the player pursues and investigates Miquella, a character the base game kept pretty shrouded in mystery.

Prerequisites

To play the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC, the player must first kill the bosses Mogh, Lord of Blood, and Starscourge Radahn. To begin the DLC, the player must talk to the NPC standing before Miquella’s cocoon in Mogh’s arena, who will further instruct them.

Open World

The Realm of Shadow is as grand and beautiful as the Lands Between. While there are fewer areas to cover, the ones available contain more than enough content to keep the player occupied and fighting. For example, in Shadow of the Erdtree, scadutree fragments were added, which are scattered throughout the realm and help reduce damage taken.

Difficulty

The DLC has become notorious for its difficulty. Compared to the base game, it is far more complex, and bosses will need a couple of hours each to kill. It took me around 10 hours to kill the final boss alone.

Shadow of the Erdtree’s Price

The DLC is available on Steam, Playstation, and Xbox for $39.99. While the price is steep, FromSoftware delivered more content in the DLC than some games do in their entirety. For context, I spent 25 hours beating the Shadow of the Erdtree DLC.

Overview

Shadow of the Erdtree is an excellent but challenging expansion that builds significantly on the base game. The lore is expanded, the environments are beautiful, the bosses are demanding, and there is tons to explore. This DLC is a solid PLEASE LET ME KILL THIS MAN out of 10.
