Nier Replicant Ver 1.22 Review: Terminally Ill Sister Simulator

Story

Nier Replicant follows an unnamed young boy and the trials he faces to save his sister, Yonah. A disease called the Black Scrawl inflicts Yonah, and her brother must try to find a cure before it takes her life. He will form alliances, make countless enemies, and discover the thousand-year-old secrets that plague his world.

Characters

As mentioned before, the boy and his sister are the main stars. The game also features a talking magical book named Grimoire Weiss, a foul-mouthed warrior named Kainé, and a mysterious recluse named Emil. Each character has unique abilities and a cryptic backstory that adds to the game’s complexity.

Nier Replicant ver.1.22474487139 is a remake of an older game by the same name. Modern technology has brought the game to a state that is far more pleasing to the eyes. Players will be able to max out both lighting and textures easily with mid-range specs.

Most of Nier Replicant’s quests involve the brother fetching a specific item to try and help his sister. These missions are very combat-oriented and allow the player to explore the game’s open world.

Nier Replicant features both magical and physical combat. The physical combat is hack n’ slash-based as the player annihilates enemy hordes with large weapons and combos. Conversely, the player gets many magical spells allowing additional crowd control and damage.

The game features an expansive open world with many unique environments and side quests. The side quests often feature the same gameplay as the main quests but earn gold, allowing the player to buy items and weapons. The game’s soundtrack is strikingly beautiful, providing a pleasant and unique backdrop to each environment.

The Nier series is known for having games with multiple endings. Nier Replicant is no different, with the true ending being unlocked after playing the game for a fifth time; the ending grind isn’t boring, though, as only half of the game needs to be replayed, and new cutscenes are added to give more context to the game’s enemies, main characters, and world as a whole.
